Well....

I did my on the ball training class this morning. I love that class. We had a little extra bonding today, Bonnie and I. Gail may have been in on it too and Barbara WISHES she was....LOL. I was bitten by an insect (hopefully not a spider) on an area usually covered by a bra. Ya, I know! 3 weeks ago! It was not healing and the whole "area" felt different so I had a doc appointment after running. Meanwhile, I had Bonnie take a peek....lol. She pretended to protest but she was a good friend and looked. She said it didn't look too bad. I told the doctor I'd probably laugh when he checked it out because I laugh when I am nervous. He said for me not to be offended if he didn't laugh. PFFFFT...I'd have been offended if he did! So anyway, I have some stuff for it, it should be gone soon. Not sure why I felt the need to share this with you all, but there it is!

I could not run today. I basically walked maybe a mile. I tried to run a couple times, but I'm afraid of hurting it more. I ran last week and did fine, but then haven't been able to run since. I'd rather baby it another week and then be free to start my training.

Training for what, you may be asking yourself. Training for the Cape Cod marathon! I am going to TRY to qualify for Boston 2009. I asked my coach, Jim, if it would be possible. At first he made a face and said shaving 30 minutes would be great, but 1:48??? So I asked him again today, knowing full well I was going for it anyway, and he said YES, I could possibly pull it off. But I have to say, Jim has never ever said one negitive thing about any goal I've set. He's always very positive, which is what got me to the Sarasota marathon. He never let me think he doubted my ability even once. His "of course-you-can" attitude is what makes him a great coach. So here we go again.

Training begins the very moment my hip flexor is healed. Let the games begin!

YOU CAN TOTALLY DO IT, KIM!!

Yep... that's all in bold for a reason. You have the drive and determination and well all know that running (any endurance sport for that matter) is half mental. So you see, you've got half of it in the bag already. With quality training, you should really be able to shave your time down!

I'm SO rooting for you!!

Hope you have a terrific weekend. Rest that hip flexor as much as you can and then put on those running shoes next week and get to working on your new goal!!!

Thanks for visiting my blog. I did end up running Napa which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Good luck with attempting to qualify for Boston, but be realistic with your expectations. After being 7 minutes short in 2006, i thought it would be cakewalk to trim that last 7 minutes off my time, but here I am still waiting over a year later. It's probably a bit different for you since you just started running. You should see some big gains in your first year of training so it's definitely possible, but don't be disappointed if you don't. Remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to get Boston, but only that you were able to get there!

Arcane, I totally agree. I love to run and I'm excited about speed training. I can't wait to see what else I can accomplish! I won't be too disappointed if I can't make the qualifying time. I tend to find the joy in almost anything. I feel like I can't really fail if I at least give it a shot. It's all a step in the right direction, no matter the outcome.
